Hurricane Irene

I posted about our earthquake, but I forgot to post about hurricane that went through here a couple of weeks later.  If you haven't been to our house, the picture below wouldn't mean anything to you.
This is what it looks like normally.  This is a trail leading to a path behind our house. Keep going and then you'll find the stream.  It's about a football field length from our home.
I just like the fall flowers...it has nothing to do with the hurricane :)

Back to the storm...Here is my neighbor, Marji, sporting her umbrella hat...she sure sports it well!
"Non smart" people standing at the bank of the flooding rapids. They are standing on the walking path that disappears in the water.
Bumper to bumper traffic in our neighborhood. All the surrounding roads were closed and there was no way out.
A leaky ceiling...great! I guess it could have been much worse!

Mr C's boo boo

Like any almost-2-year-old, Mr C has had close encounters with the driveway and sidewalk.  I'm surprised it's taken this long, but just the other day, his knee finally bore the battle wound.  It wasn't a deep cut...just a mild scrape that a little water and peroxide will take care of.  It didn't even need a band-aid, but we put one on there for good measure.  I thought C was a ham before, but this takes the cake. He has been extremely dramatic with his boo boo.  We will put him down on the ground and tell him to walk to us and he just kneels pointing to his "injured" knee.  When he does actually walk, he starts limping.  Clay and I were cracking up so much, we decided to shoot a few videos to keep the laughs for time to come.  Sometimes when he started limping, he would get distracted and forget that his knee hurt and then started walking normally.  Enjoy the drama...we certainly did!

Rocked our world...

A couple weeks ago we experienced 5.9 east coast earthquake.  At first, I thought it was a large airplane flying overhead (we are in a flight path to the airport), but then realized it was a quake when I saw everything shaking in our house. It was a little freaky since it kept getting stronger and I didn't know how much stronger it would get.  Luckily, no damage and I've only felt one aftershock since.

The next week we braced ourselves for hurricane Irene.  She hit the east coast bad, but luckily, we only got mild wind and rain.  The funny part was that a huge tree took out the power line a few doors down and left us without power for 40 hours.  Oh wait, that wasn't the funny part...the funny part was the tree fell BEFORE the hurricane came through! So...what to do with all the food that we would lose?  Have a neighborhood bbq!  Luckily, Clay and I transported our food to a friend's house and most of it was saved.  What we had left we grilled along with our neighbor's food.  Below are pictures of our fun.  The first 2 were just cute so I decided to put them in here :)

I just have to say we have the BEST neighbors in the world!  Thank you God for having us wait in a hotel for 2 months just to be blessed with these neighbors!
